Mommy Make Me, San Francisco

The chic, basic, white dress with mini-cap sleeves is the must have this fall.  A mother that sews is a bonus in any season.  Paired with a dark opaque pair of nylon stockings and knee high leather riding boots, the resulting outfit is a perfect look at almost any age. Promise.  This young lady added some color to her outfit by wearing a red-strapped messenger bag to go with the sporty theme of her outfit, and she did what I often do, which is wrap a knit sweater around the bag strap for more style and easy access.

Even though the sexy route is not really “in” right now, some women are still able to successfully create the look and avoid entering the realm of bad taste. A strong dose of natural confidence is a key accessory to this outfit. Amy knows how to wear an outfit that, although on paper reads red light district (sheer taute top, short high waisted black skirt, gold clutch, black heels), is nothing but classic sexy.  She does it right with a correctly proportioned skirt with earth-toned color combination.

How to look classy/sexy without looking trashy:

- Give the illusion of skin. The percentage of actual bare skin in an outfit should not exceed 50%.

- If you are going with bare legs, then complement with a covered up top. Yes, you can wear heels.

- If you go with a more revealing top, wear a longer skirt or pants. Yes you can wear heels.

- If you really want to show more than 50% skin, then no, you should not wear heels, and you should keep the colors closer to neutral.

No Sweat, Shanghai

Shanghai is a wonderland (or nightmare) of dresses for the butt-less, with an abundance of cheaply made knock-offs. Shopping can easily break a chilled-out girl into a cold, muggy sweat.  Enter the hero:  JNBY (Just Naturally Be Yourself) is a brand infused with an adrogenous Japanese aesthetic.  JNBY is the sweat rag for those aforementioned perspiring shoppers, ’cause a girl never sweats.

Jane’s grey on grey on black layering is casual and elegant at the same time. The Gucci oversized fringe bag is a great way to add texture to an outfit. I can also appreciate her attention to detail with the coordinating indian inspired ring and leather bracelets.

Frenzy-like, San Francisco

Bolero-like  jean jacket rolled at the elbow, layered with a colorful top and skin tight leggings, is pretty adorable on this girl.

Fashion tip of the day… rolling up your jacket or long sleeved shirts at the elbow will help make you look more casual and comfortable.

Stewart Pollock , our curator friend from the Riversouth Art Centre, is sporting an updated version of the Greaser look with a skinny tie and pumpkin coloured, short sleeved button up.  Men who match their socks with their shirts make the world a better place.

Print or brightly-colored, high-waisted skirts are popular right now, and in Shanghai comfortable shoes are a must; classic sneakers like white Vans or Converse go well with most outfits.

With this outfit you often see a high-waisted, elastic belt.  The elastic belt is overdone.  As another option, I prefer a thin, leather belt that wraps around the waist a few times.
