Big Phones, New York

Of course the best looking dudes hail from the streets of San Fran. And then an editor just informed me this picture was taken in NY. He must be from San Fran. Nothing out of the regular, but everything is so right. He’s sporting those vintage Ray Bans everyone’s got a hold of now, an over-sized leather man (or woman’s) bag, super tight skinnies, tan booties, maroon velvet blazer and a pretty big blackberry. It’s all about the tight clothes and over-sized accessories. I hope this trend continues and involves bringing back the retro Zack Morris, as big as your head, mobile phone. So BIG!

Sometimes the best outfit surprises come from the underrated back.  Here, a simple, traditional shirt has been altered with the button panels on the flip side.

Keeping warm during the holidays is essential for Christmas shopping. It is easy to look classic in the winter by throwing on a fitted lengthy coat over any outfit. Coats can sometimes be mundane but this gal picked out an interesting one with a peter pan collar , subtle coral checkers, and over-sized button. A darker pair of ballerina flats that match her tote is a smart color choice and is comfortable for those endless shopping days. Happy Holidays.

The chic, basic, white dress with mini-cap sleeves is the must have this fall.  A mother that sews is a bonus in any season.  Paired with a dark opaque pair of nylon stockings and knee high leather riding boots, the resulting outfit is a perfect look at almost any age. Promise.  This young lady added some color to her outfit by wearing a red-strapped messenger bag to go with the sporty theme of her outfit, and she did what I often do, which is wrap a knit sweater around the bag strap for more style and easy access.

Even though the sexy route is not really “in” right now, some women are still able to successfully create the look and avoid entering the realm of bad taste. A strong dose of natural confidence is a key accessory to this outfit. Amy knows how to wear an outfit that, although on paper reads red light district (sheer taute top, short high waisted black skirt, gold clutch, black heels), is nothing but classic sexy.  She does it right with a correctly proportioned skirt with earth-toned color combination.

How to look classy/sexy without looking trashy:

- Give the illusion of skin. The percentage of actual bare skin in an outfit should not exceed 50%.

- If you are going with bare legs, then complement with a covered up top. Yes, you can wear heels.

- If you go with a more revealing top, wear a longer skirt or pants. Yes you can wear heels.

- If you really want to show more than 50% skin, then no, you should not wear heels, and you should keep the colors closer to neutral.

Bolero-like  jean jacket rolled at the elbow, layered with a colorful top and skin tight leggings, is pretty adorable on this girl.

Fashion tip of the day… rolling up your jacket or long sleeved shirts at the elbow will help make you look more casual and comfortable.
