Taking a break from our usual street style musings, the VainLane ladies pick our Oscar faves. Coming soon: Oscar fails.
Crindy says: (top image) Ignore the icy death face of Mandy Moore in this photo – yes, that really is her – and direct your attention to the lovely delicate sequins fading into the nude tulle gown. Looks great with her skin tone, and I like how the details extend down the arm a little bit as well. I’m a little sick of strapless gowns so it’s nice to see something going on in the somewhat-neglected shoulder/arm area. I will say though, that this Monique Lhullier frock may have better fit a lady with a few more curves – the mermaid shape would have really come out.
Cairn says: (middle image)This Chanel gown, worn by Michelle Williams, must have been hand beaded which means a lot of subtle details and love went into it. Because the silhouette is very simple and classic the beading does not overwhelm the eye. There are no breaks in the dress so it’s one seamless, lovely, endless …. It seems like her pixie hair was cut just for the dress. Perfect.
Cristina says: (bottom image)Cate always straddles the line between avante-garde and just plain crazy, e.g. Helena Bonham’s mix-matched shoes at the Golden Globes, with a touch of old school Hollywood glamour. This lilac Givenchy Couture masterpiece is demure in the front with lilac and canary pebble beads. I love the way the yellow pops with her blonde hair and continues down the open cross back for a bit of va va voom.
